April 08, 2010 - MERA, an Eastern Europe's leader in value-added software R&D services, is to take part in the development of a new mobile communications standard - Rich Communication Suite (RCS).
The RCS Initiative is the joint effort of key telecom industry players to ensure rapid adoption of applications and services that provide an interoperable, convergent, rich communication experience. The GSMA program features the world’s leading telecom operators and manufacturers such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia, Orange, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Telecom Italia, Telefónica and TeliaSonera.
Rich Communication Suite is focused on the development of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) standards. The core feature set of RCS includes:
- Enhanced Phonebook, with service capabilities and presence enhanced contacts information;
- Enhanced Messaging, which enables a large variety of messaging options including chat and messaging history;
- Enriched Call, which enables multimedia content sharing during a voice call.
By joining the RCS Initiative, MERA receives an opportunity to participate in the joint project together with the leading telecom operators and manufacturers and stand at the forefront of the latest mobile technologies and standards. Taking part in the RCS Initiative, coupled with MERA’s recently achieved full membership of the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI), is a major contribution to the company’s innovation expertise development, specifically in the IMS area.
